A Fresh Landscape with Less Maintenance
This homeowner in Mendham’s Oak Knoll neighborhood wanted to refresh their landscaping and spend less time maintaining it. Their existing beds had old mulch and plants that needed to go, and they wanted a new design with color throughout the year. We removed the existing mulch and old plants, then updated the beds with new planting, commercial-grade landscape fabric, and 1/3-inch river rock. The river rock provides a lasting alternative to mulch, reducing the need for regular replacement.

The planting brings together different heights, textures, and foliage colors. Deep green shrubs, bright yellow-green accents, and burgundy foliage add contrast against the natural stone and frame the home’s entrance. Removing the old shrubs took careful maneuvering because machine access was tight. The homeowner had also recently installed a new sidewalk, which we kept covered and clean throughout the work. In just two days, we refreshed the landscape with colorful planting and river rock beds that support the homeowner’s goal of easier maintenance.
